As fighting in Gaza continues, Israeli soldiers in Rafah uncovered a Hamas warehouse full of weapons, drones and mortars located near a hospital and mosque, the Israel Defense Forces said on Monday.
The army said troops found the warehouse during a raid on what turned out to be an abandoned Hamas position in Rafah’s Shabora neighborhood. The IDF added that Hamas also used the site as an observation post.
Footage of the weapons released by the army showed rifles, combat gear, and grenades. The IDF said it also seized drones, explosive charges, and parts associated with weapons production.
Combat engineers destroyed the warehouse.
Also on Monday, Israel announced the expansion of southern Gaza’s Mawasi humanitarian zone.
At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 97 remaining hostages, more than 30 have been declared dead. Hamas has also been holding captive two Israeli civilians since 2014 and 2015, and the bodies of two soldiers killed in 2014.
