The nerves of the Iranians are stretched to the limit. They see attacking planes around every corner. Therefore it should not be surprising that their finger is light on the trigger of their anti-aircraft missile launchers
According to reports coming from Iran, it is claimed that the Iranian Air Defense Forces accidentally shot down an Iranian F-4 fighter jet near Kermanshah in a friendly fire incident today.
It appears Iranian officials are trying to hide the incident for the time being.
Iran currently has around 40 to 60 F-4 Phantom fighter jets, according to average estimates from various military sources. These American-made aircraft have been in service with the Iranian Air Force since the 1970s, and Iran purchased a large number of them before the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
Although decades have passed since their production, Iran has managed to keep a number of aircraft of this model in service by relying on local maintenance systems and obtaining spare parts in various ways.
