Yesterday marked 18 years since the assassination of Ardeshir Hosseinpour, a senior nuclear scientist who worked at a uranium conversion facility in Isfahan. According to Iranian reports at the time, he was killed by the Israeli Mossad in an attempt, as they claimed, to undermine Iran's nuclear program.
However, the story behind the assassination is more complex. Hosseinpour's sister claimed in an interview outside of Iran that it was not Israel responsible for his death, but rather the Iranian regime itself, due to his refusal to cooperate on the nuclear weapons development project. She stated that his assassination was part of the regime's effort to silence dissent and stifle opposition within the system.
Hosseinpour, who was young, was considered a genius in the field of physics and one of the great minds in Iran's nuclear program. Although the details of his assassination were not initially released, they were later revealed, and since then, Iran has continued to point fingers at Israel.
A post published yesterday in his memory on social media referred to him as a "martyr" of the revolution: "This path has not only remained intact but has continued thanks to the blood of the martyr, and today we are close to the summit."
"Close to the summit" – a phrase indicating significant progress in Iran's nuclear program.
A hint of what’s to come?
