Israeli newspapers paid great attention to Donald Trump’s election victory.
“An amazing comeback for Trump: elected the 47th president of the USA” said Ynet News, while Maariv headlined with “Trump is the 47th president of the USA: ‘I will end wars.'”
The website of Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan, simply headlined “Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States.” Among the site’s follow up stories was “After Trump’s victory: the Iranian currency reached an all-time low.”
“Trump victory strengthens shekel and boosts Tel Aviv Stock Exchange,” wrote Globes, a business news site.
A commentary on the popular Walla! news site argued that election results were a “time for reckoning in the liberal camp,” while another in the Jerusalem Post asked, “Did assassination attempt help Trump to victory in the US Election?”
Israel Hayom coverage included a republished Q&A from March in which Trump discussed the October 7 attacks, Iran, and antisemitism, among other things.
Channel 13’s coverage included Mo Dang, a hippopotamus at a zoo in Thailand that “predicted” the election results by selecting a watermelon cake with Trump’s name on it rather than another with the name of Vice President Kamala Harris.
