In a friday Sermon following Sinwar’s killing, Canadian Islamic Scholar Younus Kathrada criticizes youth for ignorance of “good role models,” Says: if he were an athlete or actor, they’d know all about him
In his October 25, 2024, Friday sermon in Victoria, BC, following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Canadian Islamic scholar Younus Kathrada emphasized the importance of following “good role models” and expressed disappointment that Muslim youth were unaware of such figures.
While Kathrada did not explicitly mention Sinwar by name, he alluded to him multiple times, including referencing a “stick” Sinwar was seen holding just before being killed in a drone strike.
Kathrada stated that anyone who did not understand the symbolism of the “stick” were “losers” and advised them to ask their parents about it.
He also praised the mujahideen, whom the West often labels as terrorists, as heroes.
Kathrada concluded by calling the youth “cowards” for being “too chicken” to go to the battlefield, though he clarified that they were not being asked to do so. The sermon was posted on the YouTube channel of the Muslim Youth Victoria Islamic Center.
Recently, Kathrada had been invited by the University of Victoria Muslim Students Association to deliver a lecture on campus, but after media criticism citing MEMRI clips of Kathrada praising Jihad and denigrating Jews, the event was cancelled.
