8 F-35 aircraft with specially enhanced features will soon join the Israeli Air Force's fleet.
A senior Israeli Air Force official said that eight F-35 stealth jets are currently undergoing final preparations in the United States for deployment to Israel next month.
The move comes amid reports of a possible attack on Iran.
The official added that the planes, which are part of the Adir fleet, will arrive with updated software and improved operational capabilities.
In June 2024, Israel signed a deal with the United States to purchase 25 additional F-35 stealth fighter jets, for a total value of $3 billion.
Deliveries of the aircraft, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, are scheduled to begin in 2028, at a rate of 3 to 5 aircraft per year, including support and maintenance. Upon completion of this deal, the total number of F-35 aircraft in the Israeli Air Force will increase to 75 aircraft.
Israel is the only country in the Middle East to possess the F-35 fighter jet, classified as one of the world’s most advanced fifth-generation fighter jets.
The Israeli version, dubbed “Adir,” has special technical capabilities, as it has been equipped with local technologies to improve its operational capabilities.
In addition, Lockheed Martin and Pratt & Whitney, the engine manufacturers, agreed to involve Israeli defense companies in the production of components for these aircraft, thereby increasing industrial cooperation between the two sides.
This step comes as part of improving Israel's air capabilities, and sending a strong message to its enemies in the region about strengthening the strategic alliance between Israel and the United States.
