‘Historic Days’: Israeli Officials React to Trump’s Victory

Israeli officials congratulated President-elect Donald Trump who claimed victory on Wednesday morning in the US presidential elections.

“Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback!” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement. “Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory!”

Other government ministers took to social media

“Congratulations President @realDonaldTrump on a truly historic victory. As a true friend of Israel with a proven commitment to Israel’s security, we welcome your strong and dedicated leadership as we work to build a better future of security and cooperation for the Middle East,” tweeted incoming Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. After Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was fired on Tuesday night, Foreign Minister Israel Katz was tapped to replace Gallant in the shuffling of senior Cabinet positions.

“Congratulations to President-Elect @realDonaldTrump on his historic victory. Together, we’ll strengthen the US-Israel alliance, bring back the hostages, and stand firm to defeat the axis of evil led by Iran,” Katz tweeted.

Other Cabinet ministers were quick to praise the President-elect.

“We are in historic days, and there is no doubt that thanks to your leadership and determination, you will be able to restore stability, bring prosperity, expand the Abraham Accords, and first and foremost damage the reign of terror in Tehran, the greatest danger to the free world,” tweeted Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Eli Cohen.

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, who leads the right wing Otzma Yehudit party simply tweeted, “God Bless Trump” with a red heart emoji.

“Congratulations to the president-elect of the USA @realDonaldTrump,” tweeted Culture and Sport Minister Miki Zohar. “We are already looking forward to the next four years.”

That sentiment was echoed by Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Gila Gamliel, who tweeted, “Warm congratulations to the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump. The relationship between Israel and the USA is a strategic asset for both nations, and we will continue to strengthen it under your presidency.”

Israeli-Arab activist and social media influencer Yoseph Haddad also tweeted his congratulations to Trump. “President Trump last time brought us the Abraham Accords, the American recognition of Israel’s sovereignty in the Golan Heights and Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” Haddad tweeted.

He added that he expected the incoming president to strengthen bilateral ties “and help us be victorious against Iran and against the terrorist organizations in the region.”

Inauguration Day is scheduled for January 20.
