The Dutch MoD intends to purchase 297 launchers and more than 2,400 LR-2 Spike missiles from Israeli Rafael in a contract that will not exceed €250 million
The Netherlands plans to replace its inventory of Spike launchers and missiles with new versions of these systems. Dutch State Secretary of Defense, Gijs Tuinman, recently informed the Dutch Parliament that the Ministry of Defense intends to purchase 297 launchers and over 2,400 LR-2 Spike missiles from Israeli company Rafael. These new systems will replace the older Spike missiles and launchers acquired in the early 2000s.
Armyrecognition.com estimates that the contract should not exceed €250 million. If the order is placed before the end of October, deliveries could be completed by 2028. The website notes that the Netherlands' choice is unsurprising, given that the Spike LR 2 has already been selected for the mid-life modernization (MLU) of some of the Dutch Army's infantry fighting vehicles.
Additionally, Tuinman emphasized the importance of interoperability with other NATO countries that are equipped with this system, including Germany, which also selected Rafael's missile for its MELLS project.
