For the first time: The IDF will deploy the "See and Shoot" systems at key locations in Judea and Samaria.
The IDF has begun the process of purchasing and equipping Rafael-made "Roa Yura" systems for a new arena where this system has not been used before - Judea and Samaria.
"See and Shoot" systems consist of an observation tower and a firing system that is remotely controlled by the observers - and can open fire on terrorists approaching the fence.
The system has been in use by the IDF for many years, but since 2008 it has only been deployed in the Gaza Envelope.
On October 7, these systems were only partially operational: most of them were disabled and silenced by Hamas at the beginning of the attack, using attack drones, and thus were not effective in stopping the terrorists who raided the strip.
There were only a few systems that were not disabled at the beginning of the attack - and fired shots that killed dozens of terrorists.
In Judea and Samaria, the IDF intends to place dozens of such systems at key points: command posts and entrances to communities. The main goal: preventing and thwarting terrorist infiltration and raid attacks on Israeli communities.
The systems for the Judea and Samaria theater are already in the production process, and in the first phase, the IDF will prioritize points that are defined as more threatened - and later the intention is to expand the deployment. The observers of Unit 636, the collection unit of the Judea and Samaria Division, will be authorized to operate the systems and fire remotely at terrorists if necessary.
The decision to equip the Judea and Samaria with anti-aircraft systems comes against the backdrop of the threat of a raid on the settlements.
