In a bold and unprecedented move, the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL took control of Hezbollah’s largest camp in the south
In a further step, it was learned by Lebanese media "Al Janobia" that Lebanese Army forces and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) forces entered Hezbollah centers and camps in the Zutar area – Eastern Zutar on the Litani River, which is considered one of Hezbollah’s largest storage and production camps.
The situation in southern Lebanon is currently tense following the rocket fire a few days ago on Kiryat Shmona, according to Israeli claims, and the latest Israeli threat to renew the war in Lebanon.
WHAT’S THE STORY?
The joint forces, advancing from the direction of Deir Sirian and Zuthar, searched Hezbollah military vehicles, where they found an empty rocket launcher on one of the vehicles, according to information received by the Al-Janoubia news website.
A Hezbollah vehicle that entered the camp was stopped, while Israeli drones circled the skies over the area and the Litani River.
Regarding the move, field sources in southern Lebanon said that “it appears that the decision was made by UNIFIL and the army to take control of the camps, Hezbollah headquarters, and equipment, but it is not yet known whether Hezbollah agreed to the move or whether today’s move caught it by surprise.”
The sources added: “This is Hezbollah’s largest camp in southern Lebanon. It is located in the eastern Zutar Valley, on the Litani River. Its location is strategic, as it overlooks the road leading to the western Bekaa. It has been subjected to at least 200 airstrikes during the war since October 2023, and has also been shelled by rockets launched from Israel.”
This news came after the Lebanese army detonated ammunition in the Zutar River on Sunday.
It should be noted that the bold joint move by the Lebanese army and UNIFIL followed an ultimatum from Israel to take control of this large Hezbollah facility itself.
