The World Bank today published a report on the costs of Lebanon's reconstruction following the recent war with Israel. Bank experts estimate the cost of reconstruction at about $11 billion.
According to the report, the hardest-hit sector is housing – $4.6 billion. Infrastructure suffered $1 billion in damage. The World Bank estimates the total damage caused to the Lebanese economy at more than $14 billion, including about $7 billion as a result of a decline in production activity and income.
Rebuilding Lebanon is one of the biggest challenges for the current Lebanese government. It is relying on aid from the Gulf countries, but they are currently setting conditions for transferring the money, including implementing reforms and eradicating corruption.
