The first 42-day phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip ended on Saturday
(March 2, 2025 / JNS) The Israeli Air Force hit Palestinian terrorists who planted an explosive device near soldiers operating in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday afternoon.
“The IDF will continue to operate in order to eliminate any threat posed to the citizens of the State of Israel and IDF troops,” the military added.
According to Qatar’s Al Jazeera, the IAF drone strike took place east of Beit Hanun. One terrorist was killed and one was wounded, according to the report.
The 42-day Phase 1 of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which went into effect on Jan. 19, expired at midnight on Saturday.
Jerusalem announced on Sunday morning that it had suspended all humanitarian aid to Gaza after the Hamas terrorist group rejected the truce extension proposed by U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that no goods or supplies would enter the Strip until further notice, reaffirming that Jerusalem will not agree to a ceasefire without the release of its hostages.
Hamas insists on moving to Phase 2 of the ceasefire, which calls for talks on a permanent end to hostilities in Gaza, a full IDF military withdrawal from the enclave, reconstruction and a prisoner-hostage exchange.
