Last night, the IDF thwarted another arms convoy from Syria on its way to Hezbollah. Israel is definitely maintaining a tight blockade on Lebanon, on land, in the air and at sea.
Recently, we have seen a direct Israeli threat to Iranian passenger planes from landing at Beirut International Airport after intelligence was received that they were trying to bring hundreds of millions of dollars in cash into the country to lubricate Hezbollah's military equipment that was badly damaged in the campaign against Israel.
We have also seen, even after the signing of the ceasefire agreement with Israel, attacks on Iranian arms convoys that tried to cross Syria on their way to northern Lebanon where they were to be stored in Hezbollah's strategic weapons depots throughout the north of the country that is under their full control.
Yesterday, Israel showed that it is not letting up on its tight grip on Lebanon’s borders.
Another Iranian arms convoy, which escaped (or did not?) the notice of the new Syrian regime, which usually prevents Iranian weapons from moving freely on the country’s roads, was attacked at an illegal border crossing between Lebanon and Syria, moments before it reached Hezbollah.
An IDF spokesman confirmed last night, that crossing points on the Lebanon-Syria border were attacked, which he said Hezbollah uses in attempts to smuggle weapons into Lebanon.
The IDF spokesman accused Hezbollah of “blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, adding that the IDF will continue to work to “remove any threat” and work to prevent any attempt by Hezbollah to rebuild its forces.
Local Syrian sources reported that “illegal crossings” on the Syrian-Lebanese border, in the Wadi Khaled area and in the western countryside of Homs province, were attacked from the air, without further details.
