The forces that participated in the elimination of Sinwar - return to the encounter that became instant history.
One year and 10 days after the massacre on October 7, one of the main goals of the IDF's intention in the Gaza Strip - has been completed.
The fighters who eliminated Sinwar recount the encounter that led to the important achievement: from the moment of identification, the launching of the shells until the day after, when they realized how the "routine" battle - entered the pages of history.
When the fighters of the Bislah and 460th Brigades entered the Al Sultan neighborhood, they did not imagine that they would achieve one of the main goals that Israel had set before it in the war in Gaza - the elimination of the mass murderer Yahya Sinwar. With the help of firing shells and bullets, they succeeded in completing it last October 17, and closed the The circle that opened almost exactly a year before.
The moment of the assassination of the architect and leader of the terrible massacre on October 7 was not planned, but the mission of the force in question in Rafah directly contributed to this supreme goal. The activity in the sector reduced the room for maneuver of senior Hamas officials who were hiding in the area, and as has been proven, forced them to come above the surface, where they can be reached more easily.
In the second week after the fighters entered the area, a suspicious location was found where they detected the activity of terrorists hiding from the team's guns. "We recognized that they were continuing towards one of the rooms in the building," begins to recount a contact from the 450th Brigade, Corporal A, who took part in the encounter, "and we immediately sent in an additional force and a company of tanks."
After a short battle in which a grenade was thrown at the force, Corporal A, a drone operator and trainee in the BISLAH who directed the attack, and his commander, Lt. A, also joined the scene.
"As soon as we understood the area, we advanced to the MP and raised the drone," describes Lt. A. "From there came the video that everyone already knows, in which Sinwar throws a branch and tries to knock it down." On the other side of the unforgettable documentation, with the help of the drone they were able to direct the shooting The shells that felled the Hamas leader under the rubble, "between each shell we removed and inserted the tool to make sure that the terrorist, whose identity we did not know at that stage, was still inside," explains the operator.
The same tanks that launched the shells are, as mentioned, the forces of the 460th Brigade, fighters of the MTC course, whose operational routine in the Gaza Strip secured the Fieldfi axis. "During our time there, we were attacked a lot," testifies Sgt. us to eliminate the same squad of four terrorists. It was the cooperation between the shell fire and the infantry fighters that delivered the decisive blow."
In those seconds, those warriors did not understand who it was. "It didn't occur to me at all," says Sergeant D with a smile. Only in retrospect did he and everyone who took part in the event understand its historical and strategic significance, "They announced that it was him, and we were in the clouds. It reminded us of the significance of what we were doing," says another soldier in the battalion, Corporal A, "and of course there was great interest, everyone wanted to know what happened to Sinwar."
"Even if it was a different situation, with a junior terrorist and not the most senior, we would have acted in the same way," Sergeant D clarifies, "but after we heard who we were able to eliminate the morning after - the feelings were crazy. I think to this day I still can't digest it."
