The Republican Party currently maintains a slim majority in the House of Representatives, but the final count will depend on the outcome of five undecided races.
As of Monday morning, the remaining uncalled races are located in Alaska, California, Iowa, and Ohio. Republicans hold 218 seats, while Democrats have 212.
Alaska - At-Large District
In Alaska’s at-large congressional district, Democratic incumbent Rep. Mary Sattler Peltola is facing a tight contest against Republican Nick Begich. Currently, Begich leads with 48.7% of the vote, while Peltola follows closely at 46.1%. The vote tally stands at 155,120 for Begich compared to 146,782 for Peltola, with approximately 98% of the votes counted.
California - 13th Congressional District
Republican Rep. John Duarte is ahead of former Democratic state assembly member Adam Gray in California’s 13th Congressional District. With around 86% of the votes counted, Duarte has a narrow lead of 50.6% to 49.4%, with just over 2,000 votes separating the two candidates.
California - 45th Congressional District
In the 45th District, Democratic challenger Derek Tran has overtaken Republican Rep. Michelle Steel. Tran now leads by a mere 36 votes, reversing Steel's earlier advantage of a few hundred.
Iowa - 1st Congressional District
Republican incumbent Rep. Mariannet Miller-Meeks holds a lead of less than 1% over challenger Christina Bohannan, with nearly all votes counted. The margin is just under 1,000 votes. Bohannan has requested a recount due to the close results, and while Miller-Meeks has declared victory, the Associated Press has not yet called the race.
Ohio - 9th Congressional District
In Ohio's 9th District, Democratic incumbent Marcy Kaptur leads Republican Derek Merrin by less than 1 point, with over 99% of the votes counted. Kaptur’s advantage is just over 1,000 votes. In Ohio, races with a margin of 0.5% or less are eligible for an automatic recount.
As these races unfold, the final composition of the House majority remains uncertain.
