Areas in Manij countryside experienced considerable military escalation in the past two days, where Turkish forces have escalated their bombardment and airstrikes by drones, targeting civil and military positions.
This comes as a part of efforts by Turkish forces and their proxy militias to take control of the strategic Teshreen dam and Qarrah Qarquzaq bridge, amid growing concerns about expanding military operations, which could probably affect the humanitarian and security situations in that region.
In the past two days, SOHR documented the death of 101 combatants in bombardment and clashes between Syrian Democratic Forces and “National Army” factions in Manbij countryside; they are distributed as follows:
- 85 Turkish-backed militiamen.
- 16 members of SDF and affiliated military formations.
The military escalation continues in Manbij, although the commander-in-chief of SDF, Mazloum Abdi, had announced that a ceasefire agreement was reached in Manbij city and countryside in eastern Aleppo, after mediation by US authorities.
However, the agreement collapsed due to the ongoing violations, which were manifested in exchange of bombardment and clashes.
The escalating military operations have triggered concerns about deteriorating humanitarian situation, amid appeals by international powers to put an end to the military escalation in that region.
