Israel's foreign minister has warned the French government of potential threats by groups backed by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Israeli athletes and tourists during the Paris Olympics.

Israel Katz wrote in a letter addressed to his French counterpart on Thursday, July 25, published in the media: "There are people and groups who want to attack this happy event. 

"Our current assessments (based on "hot" warning intelligence) indicate that there is a possibility of potential threats from groups associated with Iran and other terrorist organizations against Israeli athletes and tourists during the Olympics."

France has organized extensive security operations to protect the Paris Olympics. Reports indicate that in addition to 35,000 police officers, 18,000 military personnel will also participate in this operation.

All Israeli athletes will be protected 24 hours a day by officers of elite units of the French police during the Olympic Games, which will begin on Friday, August 5, whether inside the Olympic village or outside this area.
