Does Iran fear a military strike? It has just deployed new anti-ship and coastal missile batteries on islands in Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the deployment of new air defense systems and coastal missiles on the islands (captured from the UAE) of Greater Tanab, Lesser Tanab and Abu Musa
These three strategic islands are located west of the Strait of Hormuz, a weak point in global energy trade. A few years ago, these small islands were shrouded in secrecy.
The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, Alireza Tangsiri, told Iranian media on Saturday that Iran has the ability to attack enemy bases, ships and assets in the region at a range of up to 600 kilometers.
Tangsiri did not specify which systems were deployed, but a television report offered some clues, showing footage of commanders inspecting troops, as well as land-based missile systems and speedboats.
The report also stated that Iran had placed other weapons systems on the islands, including:
Bavar-373-II (range up to 300 km)
S-300PMU-2 (range 200 km)
Old S-200VE (range 250-300 km)
Khordad-15 (range 120 km)
Khordad-3 (range 105 km)
The IRGC’s coverage in the eastern Persian Gulf extends from Iran’s northern coast to the Gulf states in the south.
Iran media outlets emphasized that Iran's actions raised key strategic issues, especially as the US escalated its hostile rhetoric.
NEWSRAEL: It should be noted that there are analysts that say Iran's bark is much worse than its bite, but one should never underestimate your enemy.
