Democrat Adam Gray has narrowly secured victory in California's 13th Congressional District, winning by just 187 votes against incumbent Republican Rep. John Duarte, as reported by The Associated Press.
This district was the last to be decided in one of California's most fiercely contested races. Following the election, Republicans hold a majority with 220 U.S. House seats, while Democrats have 215.
Gray's win marks the ninth House seat flipped by Democrats in the 2024 elections, compared to eight gained by Republicans, slightly diminishing the GOP's majority. Additionally, three Republican members—Elise Stefanik, Michael Waltz, and Matt Gaetz—were selected for the incoming Trump administration, but Gaetz has since withdrawn his name, leaving those seats potentially vacant for several months.
